Processing Period in April 2025 provided by the Immigration Office

Regardless of types of application (i.e. COE application, Change or Renewal application), it has still been taking more time for processing period of screening of visa application at the Tokyo and Osaka Immigration Office.

As we informed before, there is no way but wait until you receive the Immigration Office’s notice after the application.

Therefore, to minimize applicant’s anxiety (we don’t know this makes you feel better or not), the Immigration Office provides statics of processing period taken in each months on their website.

You might notice it already, but what you should note on this is that this shows the average duration of screening of all the Regional Immigration Office and the branch office.

Actually, there is a big gap between the period at the Tokyo (Shinagawa) Immigration Office and that of at the other regional office and the branch – we would say that the difference is like 3 or 4 times. Therefore, it would take much longer than what you see on the table if your application is processing at the Tokyo Immigration Office. In case of the application at the Osaka Immigration Office, it would take more than a month even if it is a general visa renewal.

Especially, for the screening of the Permanent Residence application, it has been taking around 2 years in most of the case filed at the Tokyo Immigration Office. Within the jurisdiction of the Osaka Immigration Office, we are currently receiving the result of PR application by 10 – 12 months after the submission in most cases, but we are estimating that the Immigration Office will need more time for screening due to the huge number of application and lack of the workforce.
